The Beaches – Okay let’s face it. El Rey Maya Ruins – Aside from the stunning beaches, there is also a lot of history near Cancun and one of the most interesting historical sites you can visit are the El Rey Maya Ruins which is just minutes away from Punta Nizuc. Walk amongst ancient ruins and learn about the local indigenous culture by visiting these fabulous ruins for a brief escape from the beach. The Maya Museum – Situated in the center of Cancun lies this amazing complex which was constructed to showcase the region’s fascinating history. It’s worth escaping the beach to step into this museum as you will learn about the history of Mexico’s Mayan culture and how it effects modern day Mexico. The museum is just a hop and skip away from nearby hotels such as the Omni Cancun Hotel & Villas and the Royal Caribbean.
The Cancun Underwater Museum – Perhaps the most bizarre attraction in town is this underwater museum which was created in 2009 to commemorate the art of conservation. There are hundreds of sculptures spread over a number of underwater exhibitions for divers to explore and the museum was designed by artists from Britain and Mexico. El Meco Archaeological Site – This is another excellent historical site that is very close to the heart of Cancun’s resort concentration. It used to operate as a trade center for the Mayans until the Spanish arrived in the 16th century. Today, you can pay a visit to the fabulous structure from Cancun and stay at a number of great hotels nearby like Casablanca or Villa del Palmar Luxury Residences.
The Scenic Tower – For stunning views of the Cancun area, head up to the scenic tower in the heart of the hotel district. This 110 meter tall structure has grown to local prominence as it is a fun way to get a view of both the city as well as the stunning beaches that line the coast.
